Cowan Cup Victory

Whilst it may be said that we had home advantage, big congratulations go to the Dunkeld and Birnam Team of Steve Gilroy (65), Donald McDonald (70), Michael Murray (71), Gary Walker (72), Stephen Moon (73) and Ross Macdonald (88), who played on some tricky greens courtesy of Graham Hutchison (I'll be having a word later), who produced a best 4 scores of 278, a massive 17 shots ahead of Blair Atholl on 295. The "Canter to the Cowan" certainly proved to be a great idea, as the club produced the best team to produce the best net scores and re-take the cup last won in 2010. Blair Atholl came in 2nd place with a score of 295, with Pitlochry 3rd (298). The course was in great condition, if the gree

Handicaps/ CSS and its Calculation

I have been a bit quiet of late. Have had a bit of a lie down after the excitement of the Canter to the Cowan. We shall see how our team fare this weekend. Over the last couple of weeks, a query emerged as to how the CSS is calculated, and why does it come up with a figure lower than the lowest score recorded. If anyone is having trouble sleeping, I have a several copies of the CONGU Handicapping System, but in essence, only Clause 18 is relevant. I have, in the past, manually worked out a CSS. But the Club 2000 system which runs the CONGU program, does it at a click of a mouse. So in order to check it is working correctly, I recently calculated the CSS manually, and it produced the same res

Canter Concludes

In the final qualifying round for selection of the team to play in the Cowan Cup, it was never straight forward. The shoogly peg fell out, not helped by a twist of fate in the results in the extra medal. To save blushes, no names mentioned, but 2 players were disqualified in the extra medal for not signing their cards. I'm guessing that they were so excited by their fantastic round, they forgot. Just wondering, at what point did they sign each other's card as markers, and then forget their own signature? However, this impacted on the Cowan points, as Gary Walker gained the maximum 20 points to jump to 110 and 6th place. Steve Gilroy (131)cemented 3rd position. D D MacDonald is the unfortunat
