Winter League Wk5

Week 5 saw the ever young, John Young, play his first 18 holes of the Winter League, and is not last when it comes to his sections' Eclectic Results. 2 Players now have a set of nine holes in the 20's (Willie Young (29) and Wattie Barbour (28)). In the weekly sweep, David Crowder returns to the scratch prize (71) after his blip in week 4! Iain McPherson is back to winning form by a better inward half in the handicap (nett 60), followed by Ally Wood. That other "auld lad" David MacDougall (nett 61) secured 3rd with a better inward half to again take a bit of prize money. A few players saw their handicaps cut, which make it a little harder for them to remain in the winning zone. The Eclectic r

Winter League Wk4

Sorry, we missed posting the results last week due to a busy week with prize-givings and the little matter of the AGM! So back to business, and some familiar names in the winners list. David Crowder returned to 1st Scratch with a 71, just pipping Ronald Lambie with a BIH. However, Ronald jumps to the top of the Eclectic List! In the handicap, new boy, Gordon Smith (nett 59) takes the honours, with Tam Lindsay (nett 63), and Iain McPherson (net 65) back on the winners list. There were 4 on nett 65, but Iain came out on tops with the better inward! In the other Eclectic groups, (10-17) Wattie Barbour (63) cemented his top spot with Jim Townsley and Willie Young (65) hot on his heels. (18+), Da

Oldest Swinger in Town?

Could Dunkeld and Birnam GC lay claim to the Oldest Regular Golfer in Perthshire or beyond? John Young, aged 92, regularly plays 18 holes on a Friday in the DABS (Dunkeld and Birnam Seniors), and a Sunday in the Winter League. This can be increased to a 3rd round in the summer on a Wednesday when the need to show youngster, David MacDougall (aged 80), a thing or two, or relieve him of the customary £1 wager. The discussion started when John was part of a foursome at the recent Gents' Outing to St Michaels, where the foursome total age reached 295!! Newly appointed Captain, Douglas Ogilvie, at 52 being the "toddler", along with Andy Taylor (71), and David MacDougall made up the group. Whilst

Subscriptions 2017 Season

At our recent AGM, it was agreed that the subscriptions for Full Membership will be set at £399, if paid by the 31st January 2017. Thereafter the fee will be £420 for the rest of the year. The payment can be made in full, or by signing a direct debit mandate, which equates to £33.25 if agreed by 31/1/2017, or £35 thereafter. The other categories of membership will remain unchanged (see "Joining the Club" page for full details. The Committee feel this is unprecedented in "reducing" the annual subscription which was £455 in 2016, but the projected figures for 2017 financial season have allowed the committee to set the lower figure.

Winter League Wk2

David Crowder continues his winning streak with another Scratch 1st, a nice 75. Nett score not yet good enough to get a cut in his handicap. He leads the Eclectic with a 70, but Peter Russell (71) and Douglas Ogilvie (72) hot on his heels at this early stage. In the Handicap, Wattie Barbour's handicap in Wk1 wasn't enough to keep him out of the prizes. Mel Watkins (nett 63) was the only one to have a 0.5 reduction this week, earning him H/C top spot. Dave MacDougall improved on his 10 at the 16th in Wk1 to have a fine nett 64 to claim 2nd spot this week, with Wattie Barbour taking 3rd spot with a nett 65. 26 players played this week, which keeps the Match secretary busy when updating the Ecl
